Pen Boss Death

I finished the Pen boss death animation the other day.

As you can see from these frames below, I did actually manage to cut a marker pen into a spiral shape and then photograph it at various levels of tension. The original plan was to do all of the animation in stop motion, with the bending and stretching, but it was too hard to control properly so I ended up just using those photos as a starting point and animated it in After Effects instead, using the puppet tool to bend and warp the images. The sequence is then programmed in GameMaker for the timings of the silhouette, ink splatters and the pen lid bouncing around.
