Back To Robins
Now that ZOE Begone! is pretty much wrapped up and in the hands of the console porting team, I’ve had a bit of time to think about what I might do for my next game.
I made these Robin animations 8 or 9 years ago, and the second video here was my first attempt at making something in GameMaker.
I’ve always kind of had the idea in the back of my mind since then to try and make a game involving a Robin somehow, and even before that I remember thinking it could be ineresting to play a game where you’re a small bird hopping around, instead of the typical flying or gliding mechanics you tend to see in most bird themed games.
So I made some basic hopping and branch mechanics in GM the other day, just with very basic visuals, to see if I could get it feeling good.
I polished it up a little bit, just to get the basic character of the bird across a bit more. If I go on to make a game with this, I’ll eventually try to get more of the little details in there from the animations, but I want to do this differently from ZOE and concentrate on the mechanics, prototyping it with very little attention paid to the visuals initially - I’m confident I can get it looking good when I need to, so I want to get the gameplay and structure nailed down before I commit to polishing the visuals properly.
